Discover the unique opportunity to select and train your very own wild mustang through our Mustang Partnership Program. With expert guidance, you’ll choose the horse best suited to you from hundreds of wild mustangs and build a relationship founded on trust and clear communication from day one. This program lays the groundwork for a lasting partnership with your mustang, one that can carry you in any direction your horsemanship journey takes.

Wild mustangs are known for their intelligence, versatility, and resilience. However, with more than 66,000 currently in holding facilities, not every mustang is the right match for every rider. Choosing the wrong horse can be costly, time-consuming, and even unsafe. At Wonder Ranch, our team brings years of expertise and a keen eye for temperament and conformation to ensure you find the right partner. Whether this is your very first horse or simply your first mustang, we’re here to help you avoid common challenges and set you up for success.

Included in our six month program:

  • Personalized mustang selection experience guided by professionals to adopt an ideal mustang for you and ensure a positive horse ownership experience

  • 6 months of Full Board at Wonder Ranch in a BLM approved 6ft tall corral and round pen (see services page for Full Board details)

  • 4 hours of weekly professional training tailored to your horses needs (Owner is encouraged to watch sessions!)

  • 1 weekly hour long 1:1 lesson with Wonder Ranch’s head trainer, your mustang and/or one of Wonder Ranch’s lesson horses

  • Weekly “homework” for you to practice with your mustang during Wonder Ranch visiting hours

Priced at $7,500

$2,600 deposit required to cover the selection process, first month of board and training. Thereafter monthly payments of $980 can be made.

We’d be delighted to continue providing board and training for you and your mustang here at Wonder Ranch following the completion of our Mustang Partnership Program. Head Trainer Mira also welcomes owners to observe as many training sessions as they wish and will provide regular weekly updates, including photos and videos, to keep you connected with your horse’s progress.

Our promise to you is that if, after six months of training, your mustang is not the right fit as a partner, we will support you by facilitating resale or reassignment through the BLM, with the full sale price going directly to you.

Pickup Day!

Join us for the adventure of a lifetime as you select your mustang from among hundreds of wild horses! The selection and pickup experience includes an early morning departure, a scenic 6–9 hour drive each way with Head Trainer Mira Bouch and her training partner Owen Lawyer. With professional guidance you will have the opportunity to spend several hours observing the movement, temperament and conformation of the many wild horses until your equine partner is revealed. Along the way, you’ll enjoy plenty of conversation about horses, a break for lunch, and the excitement of choosing your future partner.

Months 1-3  During this first phase, your mustang will begin building trust and confidence on the ground, while you, as the owner, learn how to safely and effectively handle your new partner. Every horse progresses at their own pace, but this stage typically includes becoming comfortable with domestic life, learning to lead, tie, stand for the farrier, load into a trailer, pony off another horse, and stay calm when faced with new situations. By the end of this phase, your mustang will be able to confidently wear a saddle and bridle and complete a variety of groundwork exercises. 

Months 3-6 With a strong foundation of trust and ground skills in place, your mustang is now ready to begin their journey under saddle. Our thoughtful, step-by-step approach ensures each horse is introduced to riding at their own pace—growing their abilities while avoiding overwhelm. Your mustang will learn the fundamentals of walk, trot, and canter in the round pen and then gain experience on our scenic trails.

As your horse progresses, you’ll be guided every step of the way, building your own skills alongside theirs under the careful instruction of our trainers. After six months in the Mustang Partnership Program, you and your mustang will emerge as a confident, connected team, prepared to pursue any discipline you choose.

While your mustang is in training with us you are encouraged to come to Wonder Ranch during visiting hours to spend time with them, do your “homework” and develop a 1:1 bond. The head trainer during visiting hours to offer guidance and supervision. You are encouraged to take additional lessons on our trained mustangs to improve your skills as your mustang progresses!
